Net Worth Calculator

Calculate your total net worth by listing your assets and liabilities. See a visual breakdown of your financial picture and track your wealth over time.

How It Works

List everything you own (assets: cash, investments, home value, vehicles, retirement accounts) and everything you owe (liabilities: mortgage, auto loan, credit cards, student loans). Your net worth is simply assets minus liabilities, shown with a visual breakdown.

Formula

Net Worth = Total Assets − Total Liabilities
Total assets sum every item you own at current market value. Total liabilities sum every outstanding debt balance. The difference is your net worth — a snapshot of your overall financial position at a point in time.

Worked Example

Calculating net worth for a household with a home and a mortgage

  1. Assets: $15,000 cash + $45,000 investments + $320,000 home value + $22,000 vehicles + $85,000 retirement = $487,000
  2. Liabilities: $210,000 mortgage + $12,000 auto loan + $4,500 credit cards + $18,000 student loans = $244,500
  3. Net worth = $487,000 − $244,500 = $242,500
  4. Equity ratio: $242,500 / $487,000 ≈ 49.8% of assets are equity (not owed to lenders)

Common Mistakes

✕

Valuing your home at the original purchase price

✓

Use a current estimated market value (from a recent appraisal or comparable sales), not what you paid years ago — home values change significantly over time.

✕

Forgetting smaller recurring liabilities

✓

Buy-now-pay-later balances, personal loans from family, and unpaid medical bills are liabilities too, even if they don't show up on a credit report.
